Location

RDS is located in the state of Guanacaste, Costa Rica on the Nicoya Peninsula, 3.75 miles from the Pacific Ocean in the hills behind Marbella. The property and the company owning the property are called Ranchos del Socorro because the land is in a region called Socorro. Although there is not a direct English translation for Socorro, the closest meaning is "a spiritual call for salvation".

Nearby Beaches

The beaches of Playa Negra, Lagarto, Marbella, Ostional, San Juanillo, and Junquillal are all within 25 to 45 minute drive from the property. Road improvement will significantly reduce travel times and render these beaches very easily accessible. Playa Negra, Marbella, Ostional, and Junquillal all have good surfing waves. Playa Negra's claim to fame came when it was shown in "Endless Summer II", a well know surf and travel film. As the name suggests, Playa Negra's beaches are filled with beautiful black sand. Ositional is known for its National Wildlife refuge protecting sea turtle nesting zones. The largest recorded number of nesting turtles was 500,000 in one day but every year they number in the hundreds of thousands. Marbella means beautiful sea and it fills it name sake. It boasts one of the best beach break waves in Costa Rica. Junquillal is also beautiful and attracts surfers like Marbella. The beaches of San Juanillo and Lagarto are protected by reefs, which create prime locations for swimming, snorkeling, or mooring boats.

Nearby Tourist Centers

RDS is close to two major tourist centers, Tamarindo (one hour drive north) and Nosara (one hour drive south). Tamarindo is one of the top tourist destinations in Costa Rica. The beach community of Tamarindo has many restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, shops, yoga retreats, galleries, spas and a full assortment of recreational opportunities. One of the new and high-class developments in Tamarindo is Tamarindo Heights. They report real estate prices have doubled in past fourteen months and the market has supported weekly luxury home rentals of $3000 high season and an average year-round hotel occupancy rate of 85%.

Nosara, with over 15 hotels, 20 restaurants, and a small airport, is also a significant tourist destination. Nosara has many yoga centers and is well know town among the yoga community. There are many US expatriates living here and most of the development is built to US standards of luxury. A community of 200 homes filled with US expatriates can be seen at Nosara Property.

Local Resorts

One nearby resort spa is the The Sanctuary Resort. There are many more communities and resorts being developed in the area of Guanacaste, providing positive income for investors and opportunities for residents. Some such as La Joya de Lagarto, Bahia De Lagarto, Las Vistas, Kalia Living with Ruby Sky and Emerald Woods communities are still in their infant phases but are expected to expand in the near future. Emerald Woods is the closest to Ranchos Del Soccoro at only a half mile away.

Amenities in the Area

The area around RDS is currently mostly beautiful undeveloped jungle. There are many planned developments in the area but few have actually started construction on homes and hotels. We believe that the amount of planned development, when completed, will significantly add value to the area.

In the town of Marbella, about 25 min drive from RDS, there is a pizza restaurant, real estate office, small bar, and small grocery store. In the town of San Juanillo, about 35-minute drive from RDS, there are some restaurants, bars, fishing village, and accommodations.

The nearest golf course at Hacienda Pinilla near Playa Negra, is about 45 minute drive from RDS. Hacienda Pinilla is a 4,500 acre luxury beach resort and gated residential community with world-class golf course, tennis courts, hotel, surf spots, scuba diving, stables and restaurants, which are available to investors, residents and tourists. Both Santa Cruz and Tamarindo, which are each about one hour drive away, have all the major services needed such as hospital, police, fire department, building material, law offices, etc.

Airports

There are two international airports in Costa Rica with a third in the initial planning stages. The major international airport is in the capital city of San Jose. Driving from San Jose to RDS can take over six hours. The Liberia International airport in Liberia is only two-hour drive away. The planned expansion of the Liberia airport will go a long way in increasing tourism and development to the region. The planned international airport is in Golfito. Although Golfito is too far to drive to RDS, it may relieve pressure and lower prices at the other airports.

In addition to the international airports, there are over 20 domestic airports. There are two airlines, Nature Air and Sansa, flying to the many domestic airports. The closest domestic airports to RDS are in Tamarindo and Nosara, each an hour drive away.
